With over 60,000 known computer viruses and more being discovered
each month, every computer needs virus protection software.
Often, if your computer does have a virus, anti-virus software
may not install correctly. Sometimes this is a clue that you do
have a virus on your computer.
Despite needing protection, do NOT be fooled by a virus hoax
email telling you to delete files from your computer. See our
Hoaxes and Scams page for more
information
A number of good anti-virus programs exist:
Which anti-virus is best? The debate continues. However almost
everyone agrees the two above are the best. ABC corporately prefers
Symantec's Norton Anti-Virus.
Based on our field experience, Norton catches more than McAfee.
Others may have had different results.
Once you have anti-virus software installed, you must update
the virus definitions often. Your protection is only as good as
the latest definition files.
New definition files are generally available weekly unless a
serious outbreak has occured and then new definitions are made
available as soon as possible.
Be sure to update your anti-virus software often and also be
sure to run complete scans at least weekly, preferably when the
computer is not being used.
